About Kate Michelle
KateMichelle is a small enterprise specialising in designing unique jewellery for clients that appreciate something elegant yet practical.
Michelle Watling, the designer/maker, is a masters graduate from UCE Birmingham School of Jewellery in mixed media contemporary jewellery design. Michelle has created a range of hand knitted jewellery. Designs are made from fine sterling silver and enamel copper wire. Each piece is hand sawn and shaped to form rings, earrings, necklaces and bracelets. The collection also includes heart pendents and small knitted fascinator crowns for brides!
Pearls add a delicate contrast to the fine silver. Swarovski crystals and glass beads give a wow factor to the coloured wire jewellery.
Texture and surface pattern have been explored to inspire the irresistibly tactile collections. This has encompassed diverse observations from nature.
Hand knitted lengths of wire create a durable textured fabric that can then be manipulated into stunning designs. The jewellery structures have had exhaustive investigation into the combination of wire diameter and size of needles to develop individual unique patterns.
Inspired by nature and creation, constructing a durable fabric that gives the illusion of fragility is exciting!
